Slid Over

I’d successfully done several raised shapes, and was inspired by this slender canvas to try an experiment where the shape could go around the side of the canvas. I like the sides of the canvasses and have tried painting the edges different colors. I just saw a corporate painting in Chicago’s AON building where the edges were completely UNpainted and it looked pretty cool to me.

To me the painting is a 3D thing and not just the front of the painting and this was the first 3D expression of that. I was still using wax molds here and I had to really balance the thing to get it to wrap around.

I did a lot of work to try and fill in missing spots, and fussed over the shape. It still ended up looking kind of lumpy and organic.
